The space
Humphrey Shepherd's Hut is designed as a luxurious romantic escape for two. This is glamping - but in stylish comfort. We have tried to think of everything to make your stay with us completely relaxing, indulgent and memorable. We have added lots of little extras - so from the moment you arrive you can unwind and enjoy peace, privacy and beautiful countryside.
And for great restaurants, pubs, bars shopping and sites - the beautiful historic Spa Town of Tunbridge Wells is within walkable distance - or 15 minutes by car.
The walking immediately around Ambrose is glorious - whether it is on a crisp winter's morning or on a hot summer day. Step outside Humphrey and this beautiful Kentish countryside is literally on your doorstep. And when you return ...
The magical Scandinavian wood fired hot tub is wonderful at any time of day but especially romantic under the stars. Unlike other hot tubs, it is completely free from chlorine and is filled with fresh water for each guest stay. There are waffle robes and flip-flops provided to allow you to dip in and out!
The hot tub will be heated for your arrival and will just need a few logs for the next day to warm it up again. You will also find complimentary Prosecco, chocolates and marshmallows (for toasting!) together with essentials for a delicious continental breakfast. There is a Dualit coffee maker as well as hot chocolate and lots of tea varieties.
The super comfortable, sumptuous full size bed will give you the most wonderful nights sleep with DUSK 600 count Egyptian cotton sheets and luxury duvet. And the ensuite bathroom is beautifully equipped with a rain shower and all the essentials including lovely fluffy towels.
The wood burning stove - which will be laid for your first night (in cooler months - just strike a match!) - will keep you extra cosy in the winter months. In hot summer months the natural wool insulation keeps the hut lovely and cool.
For around the fire pit we have lovely comfortable airondack chairs - with sheepskin rugs for colder evenings as well as extra blankets. And there is an honesty box if you'd like to enjoy a whisky or two from the antique crystal decanter. The fire pit has a grill if you want to BBQ - we provide enamel plates, mugs etc for outside eating as well as oil and candle lanterns.
There are some spare wellies if you forget yours, and an outside sink to wash off muddy boots.
You'll find a selection of books and local OS maps as wells as a little chess set, backgammon and cards.
There are a couple of really outstanding old country pubs within walking distance (for the more energetic, as the route is across fields) or 15 minutes by car/taxi.
Guest access
'Humphrey' is in the meadow next to our farmhouse, but at a good distance away. We are available at all times for any help or recommendations if wanted, but otherwise you will have complete privacy. There is a gravel pathway from the open barns - with ample free private parking - to the hut. Until recently, the meadow was used for grazing animals and we are surrounded by open farmland. In the Springtime there's a good chance of seeing lambs gambling around in the next door fields. The Tunbridge Wells circular walk (of 40 miles) passes by the adjoining fields and along the beautiful grade 2 listed Victorian railway which is just visible on the horizon in winter months.

Although we love both - 'Humphrey' is unsuitable for pets and children (sorry!)
Smoking is not permitted inside the hut.
Our Scandinavian wooden hot tub is completely free from chlorine and is filled with fresh water which can stay in for three days.
We will greet guests and show you to 'Humphrey'. You will then be left in complete privacy for your stay, but we are on hand should you need us.
Taxis are available from the High Brooms station (7 minutes by car) but only at peak times (so worth booking in advance). Tunbridge Wells Station (20 minutes by car) have taxis at all times.
We are 50 minutes by rail from London Charing Cross.
Only private cars allowed - no camper vans.

We provide a good, generous supply of logs (for the internal wood burning stove, hot tub and fire pit) which should be ample for any two day stay.
If you would like more kindling/lighters and logs these can be supplied @£15 for a basket of logs and @£10 for more kindling and firelighters.
