Welcome to Wheal Basset 2, a beautiful two-bedroom first-floor apartment located in Carnkie Village outside Redruth, overlooking the stunning countryside dotted with historic buildings. Redruth was the centre of the copper mining industry which has left behind numerous engine and pump houses and is an ideal location for a holiday base as it is close to the countryside, towns, nearby attractions and beaches.
Access to the property is along a small pathway and then up a flight of stairs to the first floor. There are two lovely bedrooms, one with a stunning view of an engine house, along with a large shower room, a well-equipped kitchen and diner with everything you may need, and a lovely living area with comfortable sofas.
There is so much to do in the area, you have two large beaches Portreath and Porthtowan, both are popular as they are good for water sports and great for families with good amenities close by. There are smaller coves and beaches hidden away on the Penzance to Redruth road about a 20-minute drive away.
If you are looking at exploring the area, you can follow the circular paths which follow the coast and countryside, visit Heartlands Cornish visitor attraction where you can see exhibitions, enjoy the gardens, and stop for refreshments. The Great Flat Lode trail is in a World Heritage site and leads around major mines in the Camborne and Redruth area leading up to Carn Brea granite hill.
If you want to explore a mine visit King Edward Mine Museum, Levant Mine and Beam Engine, Geevor Tin Mine and East Pool Mine. A popular option is to cycle around, there is a lovely cycle path from Bissoe to Portreath, equipment can be hired at Bissoe and halfway there is a pub for refreshment, then arrive at the beach before cycling back. For gardeners you will find sub-tropical plants in the area due to the mild climate, an excellent example is Burncoose Gardens and part of the Caerhays Estate, 30 acres of woodland to explore. Whatever you choose to do, this is a fantastic base, close to Redruth and Camborne, 20 minutes drive is Truro with its magnificent cathedral and cobbled streets, or explore the historic town of Helston or the picturesque Porthleven Harbour. All the main areas to visit in Cornwall are 25 -30 minute drive away in either direction, including St Ives, Hayle, Falmouth or Newquay.
